Challenge

Week - 4 - 2D meshing for Plastic components

OBJECTIVE

For the given Plastic Bottle Cap model, check for the geometrical errors and take the mid surface by suitable mid surfacing techniques. PID and Thickness assignment has to be done for all the mid surfaces. Mesh the same with given element Quality criteria.

PROCEDURE

Step 1: Topological Cleanup and midsurface extraction

  • Release all cons and do topo.
  • Go to geometry checks and select single cons, triple cons, needle surfaces, cracks etc.If any fix them automatically or manually.
  • Remove unnecessary cuts and faces and create new surfaces.
  • Create mid surface using middle, offset and middle curve options.
  • Assign PID to the mid surface.

Step 2: Surface Meshing

  • Go to mesh mode.Give the above quality criterias in mesh parameters and quality option.
  • Mesh the surface one by one with minimum number of trias and zero off elements.
  • Use split, paste, move options to eliminate off elements and trias.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Understood how to do topological cleanup, how to extract mid surface and assign thickness and how to do meshing.

RESULTS

For the given Plastic Bottle Cap model, checkED for the geometrical errors and took the mid surface by suitable mid surfacing techniques. PID and Thickness assignment done for all the mid surfaces. Meshed the same with given element Quality criteria.

CONCLUSIONS

Some Failed elements near to Triple CONS or at smaller regions which are bounded by two Triple CONS.
