Week - 4 - 2D meshing for Plastic components
OBJECTIVE
Take the mid surface for all the components after checking the geometrical errors.
Mesh the mid surface with the given element Quality criteria.
Assign the thickness to the elements
PROCEDURE
- Import the geometry into ANSA by using the open option in the file menu.
- Check the geometry by using Checks > Geometry in the tool menu.
a.) Execute the check on each component to find the geometry errors
b.) Try eliminating the errors by using the autocorrect options initially, if that does not eliminate all errors use manual operations like deletion, creation or fusing of surfaces to eliminate the error

- To Take the midsurface
a.) Measure the thickness of different components.
b.) Offset one side of the surfaces by distance equal to half the thickness to obtain the midsurface of the component and repeat the process for each component.
- Set the PID for the component with different thickness as MIDS1, MIDS1.5 and so on

- Cut the surfaces into convinient Macros by using Cut and Proj. cut options in the macros menu

- To mesh the surfaces assign appropriate number of hot points to each con such that the element length is within limits then use the best option in the Mesh generation menu to mesh the macros.

- Input the given quality parameters in the quality criteria window and switch on the hidden mode to view the off elements.
- Use appropriate tools in the element menu, grid menu and Shell menu to correct the failing elements(Note: only 4 elements in location where they cannot be corrected are failing in this model)
- Activate Draw shell as Solid in presentation parameter in the Quality criteria window to visualise the elements with thickness.

RESULT
The geometry was cleaned
The midsurface was obtained for the given geometry
The midsurface was meshed and the elements was assigned appropriate thickness
Learning Outcome
Performing Geometry Cleanup of a complex part
Obtaining midsurface of components with feateures such as ribs
