Week 3 Verification of Weld Joints
OBJECTIVES:-
- To find out directional deformation ,equivalent stress and strain for the welding of stainless steel ,aluminium wrought and bronze
- identify highest equivalent stress in each case for weld joint and compare them
PROCEDURE:-
- Open the ANSYS WORKBENCH R2
- Select static structural analysis
- Rename it's name as stainless welding for first case (for second case rename as AL wrought and dor third case rename as brazing )
- select engineering data and choose material as stainless steel
- import the geometry
- Open the ansys Mechanical
- in geometry section , rename body parts appropriatly
- choose stainless steel as material for all plates ,ribs and weld joints
- in connection section, right click on contacts and choose rename all based on defenition

- select the contact which are between bigplate and small plate ,rib 1 and big plate ,rib 2 and big plate ,rib 1 and small plate & rib 2 and small plate and choose type as frictional and input coefficient of friction as 0.2

- select big palte and small plate by body selecting tool and In mesh section input mesh element size as 5 mm
- right click on static structural insert fixed suport and select its scope as sides 5 holes on big plate

- insert force and input its scope by selecting 4 sides of rectangle hole on small plate

- in solution section insert directional deformation (Select y axis) ,equivalent stress and strain
- run solve

CONCLUSION:-
- Directional deformation is minimum for stainless steel weld is 0.34889 mm and deformation maximum for brazing is 0.38798 mm
- By comparing equibvalent stress in weld joints it is maximum in stainless welding is 291.23 MPa
- equivalent stress is minimum in weld joints is 241.15 MPa and weld material is aluminium wrought
- equivalent strain is minimum in stainless steel is .0020237 mm/mm
- equivalent strain is maximium in aluminium wrought weld joint
