Week 2 Railwheel and Track
OBJECTIVES :
To find the total deformation on the rail wheel track and also to check von mises stress and strain
To find the pressure developed in in the contact of the body for 1e5 and also for 5e5N bearing load
To compare the total deformation, von mises stress and strain for the bearing load of 1e5 N and 5e5 N .
PROCEDURE :
- Opened ANSYS students R2 and selected staticstructural analysis
- selected material and imported geometry
- inserted joints in connections and adjusted its specification as required
- arranged mesh size as 35 mm in contacting bodyparts and 50 mm remaining parts
- in analysys settings apecified the number of steps and specifed full settings for each step
- inserted the bearing load and joint
- inserted all solution in solution
- run the solver
RESULTS :
BEARING LOAD OF 1*e5 N
Total deforamtion : elastic strain : equivalent stress : force reaction :

BEARING LOAD OF 5*e5 N :
Total deforamtion : elastic strain : equivalent stress : force reaction :
TABULATION :
| Total deforamtion(m) | elastic strain | equivalent stress(Pa) | pressure to running rail | pressure to wheel | |
| bearing load of 1*e5 N | .89776 max | 5.6902e-003 | 9.0485e+008 max | 1.3816e8 max | 3.0702e8 max |
| bearing load of 5*e5 N | .99284 max | 5.6946e-003 | 9.0583e+008 max | 7.323e+008 max | 4.8825e+008 max |
comparison of deformation for 5*e5 N bearing load :
| inbuild ansys total deformation | user defined deforamtion for all directions |
| .99284 m | .99284 m |
CONCLUSION :
- deformation is more for bearing load of 5*e5 N than that of 1*e5 N
- maximum equivalent stress acting at a specific time is almost same for both value of bearing load
- for high value of bearing load or as increasing bearing load pressure to wheel and also to the running rail also increasing respectivly
- maximum elastic strain is almost same for both values
