Week 3 Verification of Weld Joints

AIM: Verification o f Weld joints.

PROCEDURE:

  • So first we import the file in ANSYS and then edit that model file in Spceclaim.
  • The model is given below:

  • Now after this we have to assign the material to the component as per the requirement.
  • Now after this we will add the connection to the model as given below:
  • After connection we will mesh the component, for the plates we will have mesh size as 6mm.

  • Now after meshing we have to do the anlaysis setting.
  • Just turn on the large deflection.

  • Now after this we will add the force and fixed the body.
  • So first create the fixed support at required point as shown:

  • After that we will apply the load of 15000N on the other plate. In Y-direction.

  • Now we will add the solution which we required. And solve the program.

CASE 1: Stainless Steel: In this case, the material of the plates must also be the same. Use Stainless steel for both weldments and plates. No need to add flux to the weldments.

Directional Deformation:

Equivalent Elastic Strain:

Equivalent Stress on RIBS:

Case 2: Aluminium Alloy:The material to be chosen for this case is Aluminium alloy(high strength, wrought). [Plate material to be used is stainless steel]

Directional Deformation:

Equivalent Elastic Strain:

Equivalent Stress on RIBS:

Case 3: Bronze: In order to simulate "Brazing", you should be using bronze as the weld material. Assign Stainless Steel to both plates and Copper to the "Ribs".

  • In this we will assign the material only too welds. And after that we will run the simulation.

Directional Deformation:

Equivalent Elastic Strain:

Equivalent Stress on RIBS:

Sr No. CASES DIRECTRIONAL DEFORMATION(mm) Equivalent Elastic Strain (mm/mm) Equivalent Stress on RIBS (MPa)
1 1 0.354 0.00181 283.11
2 2 0.372 0.00331 229.06
3 3 0.362 0.00230 248.31

CONCLUSION:

  • So here we can see the bronze ribs having the less equivalent stress comapare to other material.
  • Also the aluminum alloy has teh highest directional deformatuon and stress on ribs.
