Challenge

Week 3 Sheet metal Bending challenge

Aim-

Sheet metal bending is to be performed for 3 different materials mentioned below. Variation of certain settings is also to be performed and your conclusions are to be added to the report

Case 1:Aluminium Alloy 1199( mentioned in the course video),Copper Alloy NL and Magnesium Alloy NL. Find out the Equivalent stress, Equivalent elastic strain and Total Deformation in Y direction and compare the results for the three materials.

Case 2:With the material as Aluminium Alloy, change the friction coefficient to 0.19 and run the analysis as mentioned in Case 1. Compare the results with that in case 1.

Case 3: Refine the mesh on the plate such that it doesn't cross the academic limit. With Aluminium alloy as material, run the analysis as in Case 1 and compare the results.

Procedure-

1) Drag the static Structural into the project schematics and rename the project, now open engineering data to choose the matrials

2) now import the geomerty by right clicking on geometry and import, then double click on geometry to open spaceclaim to check for any abnormality, if everthing is correct, exit spaceclaim

3) open model browser and rename the parts as follow

now select the part which we want to apply new material and assign by clicking on matrials in details view

4) Go to Connections and rename them based upon their defination, in the 1st conection change it from bonded to frictional, select all the contact faces, add friction coefficient to 0.1, behavior to Auto Asymmetric, Formulation to Augmented Lagrange, Normal Stiffness to Factor and stiffness factor to 0.1, interface treatment to Add Offset, Ramped Effects

do the same for 2nd connection

5) in Mesh Add body sizing of 4mm to punch and die, 1mm to sheet , face sizing of 1 mm to faces of punch and die where sheet will be in contact and method to tetrahedron mesh on sheet

6) In analysis setting Add 10 steps

insert a displacement to punch on its top surfaces as follows

Restrict the movement of sheet in Z direction

displacement to die at last steps

7) In solutions insert Equivalent stress, Equivalent elastic strain and Total Deformation in Y direction
