Week - 3 Drop test Challenge
Aim : To perform the drop test simulation of given model which conisists of Mobile and Plate mimicking ground by using the LS dyna assuming the real life scenerio for the boundary conditions.
Procedure :
1. Problem setup
Considering the Cellphone is dropped from a certain height (h), with initial velocity zero under the acceleration due to gravity. Further we are conisdering the cell phone bottom portion in vertical position strikes the ground, considering intial velocity at 20mm height before it striking the ground as velocity criteria at -ve z direction and define the fixed boundary conditions for ground.
to find the initial velocity find the following conisderations
2. Procedure :
a. Import the given .k file which conisists of cell phone and ground model which are meshed files. The attached file conosts of three parts such as Cell phone, shell plate and solid geound. here we can either delete any one shell or soliid to mimic the ground.

b. Define the Material card for both cell phone as Material Piece wise linearity and Ground as Rigid body by definiing the density, youngs modulus, poisson ration etc.

c. Define the part ID for both the cell phone and rigid ground and also define the section ID shell for both.

d. Create automatic surface to surface contact , defiined between the plate(slave) and cell phone(master).
e. Define the initial velocity keyword as 13.38mm/msec in -ve z-direction for cell phone.
f. Define the control termination time as 5msec to complete the simulation.
g. Define the database for output file for ASCII option and Binary D3 plot.
RESULTS
The following images represnts the Vonmisses stress induced and Resultant displacement.

Learning Outcomes :
1. Learn how to define the Problem setup and required parameters study.
2. The Drop test is perfomed by using the LS Dyna.
3. A good understanding of LS Dyna tool.
