Week - 3 Drop test Challenge
DROP TEST
Objective:
To create a keyword file for drop test of a phone and analyse the simulation results.
Procedure:
In the given model (Fig 1) the phone which is the solid meshed model, is considered to be made of aluminium. The ground is the shell meshed model.

(Fig 1)
The first part would be to define material for both the objects. MAT_24 PIECEWISE_LINEAR_PLASTICITY is taken for phone and MAT_20 SOLID is considered for the floor.
The second step is to define the section as the phone is a SOLID and the ground is SHELL.
The next step is to assign the material and section to the part id.
The contact is defined as Automatic_Surface_to_surface.
Boundary conditions to the floor and velocit to the phone is assigned.
Ascii database cards like MATSUM, GLSTAT along with BINARY3PLOT.
Results:
The von mises stress during impact is as shown below(Fig 2).

(Fig 2)
The total energy kinetic energy and internal energy is as shown (Fig 3).

(Fig 3)
The blue line is total energy, the green line is internal energy, and the red line is kinetic energy.
By looking at the plot, total energy remains constant while the internal energy is increased while kinetic energy is decreased during impact.
Conclusion:
The kinetic energy is converted to internal energy within fractions of seconds.
Note: Attached is the .k file used for the drop test.
