Week 3 Challenge : CFD meshing on Turbocharger
AIM: To check the geometrical errors in given model and to perform surface mesh and volumetric mesh with the given target length as per PIDs.
OBJECTIVES:
- Learn to check the geometrical erros and clear those errors with topology cleanup method.
- Create PID for model.
- Surface meshing with different target length.
- Volumetric mesh for required volumes.
PROCEDURE:
- After import the geometry, there is some overlap surfaces and discontinuities in the CAD surfaces.

- Overlap surfaces and discontinuities found in the blade surfaces and turbo casing.

- Discontinuities surfaces on top side of turbo casing filled with Coons option in New faces options

- Intersect the cone with cylinder surface to make a appropriate triple cons.

- Finally removed all overlap surfaces and done the topo clean up.

- Closed the all open surfaces with New face option on COONS and made the separate PID for those.

- PIDs are rearranged accordingly with the specific name of parts in turbo charger.

- Compressor has been meshed with given target length as 5mm Tria element type.

- Turbo casing and inlet casing cover has been mesh with given target length as 5mm tria element type.

- Blade stage 1 & 2 was meshed with given target length as 1mm tria element type.

- shaft rotor was meshed with given target length as 1mm tria element type.

- Finally the whole turbo charger model has been meshed with as given target length and tria element type.

- Volumetric mesh done on required volumes of inner side of compressor casing and inner side of turbo casing using the define option in volume mesh section.

- Tetrahedron mesh type was intended to complete the volumetric mesh.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- How to do check the geometrical errors of the model.
- How to do the topology cleanup of the model with faces option.
- How to create a separate PID for the model.
- How to use the boolean opeartions and wireframe mode.
- How to correct the discontinuities surface on model.
- How to mesh the model with different target length.
- How to ensure the fine mesh of the model.
- How to do the volumetric mesh ans why its required.
- Application of volumetric mesh.
RESULT:
The surface mesh done for given turbo charger model with various target length and volumetric mesh also completed with required volumes in given model.
CONCLUSION:
The surfacemesh knowledged about choosing various target length to based on application. volumteric mesh gives the importance on flow analysis where the volumes should required to run the analysis.
