Week 3 Challenge : CFD meshing on Turbocharger

AIM

To done CFD meshing on turbo charger

OBJECTIVE

For the given model, check for the geometrical errors to make appropriate volumes. Perform surface mesh with the given target lengths as per PIDs.

  1. Blade stage-1 = 1 mm
  2. Blade stage-2 = 1 mm
  3. Impeller = 2 mm
  4. Shaft rotor = 1 mm
  5. Turbo casing = 5 mm
  6. Compressor casing = 5 mm
  7. Inlet casing cover = 5 mm

Procedure

First of all we have to done geometric clean

  • We uses a lot of options to clean up the model
  • Here we found an triple coon ,triple coon is beacause the surfaces are not intersecting
  • Innorder to intersect the surafces we use option intersect

GEOMETRIC CHECK

  • We found some errors

  • we uses delete option to remove some surafces which may cause errors
  • And we use project make the single coons to triple coons

Naming & Adding PIDs

After checking we added some new PID to existing list and named them properly

Surface meshing

Then we started surface meshing

  • We done meshing on each PID one by one using spot mesh option
  • We use spot mesh visible option

Volimetric meshing

  • Once surafce meshing completed we start volumetric meshing
  • We select v.mesh deck for that
  • Then by using define option we take the list of volumes which is automatically shown by ansa
  • Then we selected needed volumes where the flow occurs

  • Then we done volume meshing by using Tetra CFD option
  • Here we are filling the volumes by tetra elements for analysis

Observation

  • Here we can see that the size of tetra elements changes accordingly with mesh length
  • Size of elements near shaft area is smaller than elements in casing area

Conclusion

  • Completed meshing of turbo charger and understands ANSA more
  • Understands how fix errors
  • Meshing completed and output is satisfactory
