Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
The EV_defaults _in file is loaded for analysis. The default conditions are shown in the figure.
The default cargo mass value is changed to 500 kg and moved to the next phase.
The default drive cycle is taken as CYC_UDDS and no of cycles is 1.
The Drive cycle model is changed to FTP for analysis. The no of cycles is increased to check the maximum distance traveled by the vehicle and determine the SOC of battery.
The distance traveled by vehicle in a single cycle is 11.04 miles is equal to 17.7km. The no of cycles is 5 and so the total distance is equal to 55.2 miles is equal to 88.54 km.
But from the simulation, we can see the SOC of the battery becomes zero in the middle of the drive cycle and the distance traveled by vehicle is 25.7 miles equal to 41.36 km.
The vehicle cannot travel 45km with given FTP drive cycle and default conditions in a single charge.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
The above model is simulated with the same conditions used in the previous case but only the battery capacity is changed and analyzed.
The battery capacity model is changed to ESS_PB 28 and maximum power is changed to 30. Correspondingly nominal voltages change.
This graph shows the variation of velocity and battery capacity. As long as the battery provides power vehicle runs to a certain distance and later when the battery is drained vehicle is stopped.
Now the distance traveled by vehicle is 30.1 miles equal to 49.88km. Finally the range of vehicle more than required 45km. This infers that distance traveled by the vehicle increases by maximizing the battery capacity.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file Compare your results in the table and conclude.
The above model PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in is added with gradeability test to check its performance.
The gradeability % is analyzed under the different speeds of the vehicle.
Case 1
At 70 mph
Case 2
At 55mph
Case 3
At 40 mph
Case 4
At 30 mph
The table shows the analysis of gradeability % at different speeds
Gradeability is the ability of a vehicle to run on the slope . At low speed, gradeability % will be high and at high speed it is low. Prius gradeability % can be determined at different speeds.
