Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

ADVISOR TOOL:

A model written in the widely used MATLAB/SIMULINK software environment.this is a tool stands for 'ADVANCED VEHICLE SIMULATOR' which is used to model different types of vehicles such as some IC engine based and electric vehicles,hybrid vehicles and fuel cell-based vehicles,this tool is very useful in case of user defined powertrain or vehicle dynamics and wants to see the following results before the implementation of the model.

TASK 1:

For ev_defaults_in file,if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions,can the vehicles travel for 45 km with FTR dirve cycle ? Conclude your observations.

In load file tab,select EV_defaults_in file and change cargo mass to 500 kg and select continue.Select FTR in drive cycle tab and click on run.

PROCESS:

In 1st drive cycle ,it is found that vehicle runs a distance of 11 miles (17.699 km) with 40% battery power consumption.

In 2nd drive cycle, it is found that vehicle runs a distance of 22 miles (35.398 km) with 70% battery power consumption.

In 3rd drive cycle, it is found that vehicle runs a distance of 25.7 miles (41.35 km) with 100% battery power consumption.

vehicle can travel distance of 17.7km after 1st FTP drive cycle.maximum distance travelled by vehicle after three cycle in single charge is 41.35km.

Vehicle can not travel 45 km in single charge.

TASK 2:

In above case,try changing battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

PROCESS:

The number of bettery modules is increased from default 25 to 30 check for the range.

Increase in the number of battery modules will increase the nominal vpltage from 308 to 370 volts.

This also resulted in the increase in the overall weight of the vehicle.

RESULT:

Select FTP drive cycle and change the value of drive cycle 3. after tab and click on the run.

The 1st plt shows that drive cycle spped vs time.

From the 2nd plot the battery SOC has declined to 5800 or less.

The total distance travelled is 30.5 miles (49.08km).

TASK 3:

To perform gradealibillity test with PRIUS_JPN_defaults_in file compare your results in table and calculate.

The model of toyota prius parallel hybrid vehicle.it uses battery and an IC engine to power the wheels.As can seen from the figure,the differential is connected to an IC engine via a device called as a power split device.power split the power according to the throttle demands keeping the engine in maximum efficiency zone,providing additional power via battery and engine during aggressive conditions,charging the battery via a generator during conditions such as regenerative braking and presserving the energy efficiency.

VEHICLE:

power produced by IC engine : 43 kw with fuel convertor efficiency of 0.39

battery capacity:NMH batteries have been used with 40 modules producing a nominal voltage of 308 v

generator :15kw

Motor:induction motor producing power of 15kw with 0.84 efficiency.

Transmission:CVT

Drive:front wheel drive

PROCESS:

in order to perform the gradeability test.we keep the grade value constant and change the speed values to find out the maximum gradebility at an optimum speed simulating for 10s.

Simulation is run with for gradeability test.

START TEST:

OBSERVATION:

CASE 1:

Speed=10mph,Duration time=10 sec.

Gradeability=30.3%

CASE 2:

Speed=20 mph,Duration time=10 sec.

Gradeability=19.8%

CASE 3:

Speed=30mph,Duration time=10 sec.

Gradeability=14.7%

CASE 4:

Speed=40mph,Duration=10 sec.

Gradeability=11.7%

CASE 5:

Speed=50 mph,Duration=10 sec.

Gradeability=9.7%

Comparing this we can coclude that the both are equally works.but when the speed is increase in constant duration then the percentage of gradeability is deacrease.

When speed is increase the gradeability is deacrease.
