Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Use ADVISOR tool and simulate the following
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
Q1.ans} Initially to operate on the advisor tool.Open Matlab-->and browse for folder-->Then, add the advisor folder which is downloaded onto the MATLAB path-->Then in the 'Command Window' type "advisor" and presss enter.
Now the interface for ADVISOR opens and change the metrics to 'Km' and press start to enter the tool.
- In the 1st G.U.I load file-->EV_defaults_in-->change the cargo mass to 500kg and observe the overall vehivle weight change-->select'continue' to move the second G.U.I

- On the top right corner change the dive cycle to FTP using the drop down box and make sure the no of cycles is '1' for the first simulation.

- Now hit 'Run' to simulate these conditions .Results are as follows
- Now press'back' to return to the 2nd G.U.I and vary the drive cycle number to '2'.Results as follows:

- Now press'back' to return to the 2nd G.U.I and vary the drive cycle number to '3'.Results as follows:

- Now press'back' to return to the 2nd G.U.I and vary the drive cycle number to '4'.Results as follows:

- Since the increase in no.of drive cycles has no effect in distance covered and the value of distance covered remains at 41.4km .We come to the conclusion that the vehicle cannot cover 45Km using the FTP drive cycle no matter how many number of cycles.
Q2.ans} In the same above conditions, of FTP drive cycle and 500 kg cargo mass and same 'load file'
if we change the battery capacity to 20 modules from 25 modules. The following are the results gradually increasing Number of cycles

- It is observed that the max distance vehicle can travel is 33.5 km.after 3 driving cycles.
- Now when we increse the batter capacity by increasing the no of modules to 30 in the 1st G.U.I and run the simulation under same conditions and gradually increase the number of driving cycles. The following are the results

- It is observed that after the number of cycles value goes above 3 the distance covered by the vehicle is constant that is 49.1 Km.This value is higher than the 45 Km asked in the question.
- Hence we can conclude that as battery capacity decreases the distance covered by the vehicle is also less and that when battery capacity is increased the distance covered is also increased. They are directly proportional to each other.
Q3.ans} Initially open the advisor tool--> load file 'PRIUS_jpn_defaults_in'-->Move to the 2nd GUI and enable gradeabiliy test at default conditions at default speed of 55mph.
Subsequently change the speed values to see and compare variation in gradeability. Results are as follows:
( This is for 55mph)
(Tis is for 10 mph)
( This is for 25mph)
| S.no | speed (mph) | Gradeability(%) |
| 1 | 10 | 30.3 |
| 2 | 25 | 16.5 |
| 3 | 55 | 8.9 |
| 4 | 70 | 6.3 |
| 5 | 100 | 1.3 |
| 6 | 120 | 0.1 |
From the above table of observation it can be concluded that gradeability is inversely proportional to speed of the vehicle. As speed increases, Gradeability decreases
