Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with the FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations:
Ans:
Objective: With the given parameters record the observations.
A. Below is the default EV for the Cargo mass = 500kg:
B. Can the vehicle travel for 45km with the FTP Drive Cycle?
From the below window it is clear that with default No. of cycles it is not possible to complete the 45km distance with SOC=0% (Since, it is 17.7km)
C. So for trying to complete 45km with SOC=0% we need to check it for 4 no. of cycles as below:
D. Conclusion:
As highlighted in the above figure we can not reach 45km of distance before SOC = 0%

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation:
Ans:
Objective: With the above parameters change the battery capacity and record the observations.
A. Battery capacity change:
In order to increase the battery capacity, the voltage needs to be improved. That is achieved by increasing the no. of modules to 28 from 25 previously.
B. Check for the distance covered with the effect from increasing the no. of modules:
C. Conclusion:
As from the above results it is clear that with the given set of modules (28), it is possible to cover the required distance of 45km at the time of SOC = 0%.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in the table and conclude:
Ans:
Objective: With the given parameters change the battery capacity and record the observations.
A. Selecting the required Drive Cycle 'PRIUS_Jpn':
As highlighted in Black color, we can select the required drive cycle.
B. Initiating the Gradeability Test:
In order to check the gradeability,we need to tick the 'Gradeability Test'option as depicted in the above figure.
C. Selecting the speed at the required value:
D. Initial 5mph run result:
The above figure shows the various parameters with a Gradeability = 18.1% at the initial stage.
E. Final 5mph run result:
The above figure shows the various parameters with a Gradeability = 13.8% at the final stage.
F. Conclusion:
From the above, it is clear that the vehicle has an optimum performance between speeds 15 to 20 mph, which is highlighted in Green color.
