Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Study 1 - For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

We need to find vehicle can travel 45km or not, with EV drivetrain configuration and with default battery capacity. We are using ADVISOR (Advance Vehicle Simulator) tool for it.

Steps –

1. Change type of drivetrain from parallel to EV and change cargo mass to 500Kg and click on continue button.

2. Choose drive cycle as FTP and run the simulation by clicking on run button.

3.After observing results we can repeat the process for desire output by clicking on back button.

Result –

We observed, vehicle travels 17.8Km distance when number of driving cycle is one and state of charge is 65%.

After changing number of cycle to 3, vehicle travels 41.4 Km and battery has discharged. We got a warning – Required distance exceed EV range. So we can say vehicle will not able to complete 45Km distance with current battery capacity.

Study 2 - In study 1, try to change the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

we have to change battery capacity to run vehicle 45Km distance so we changed number of modules of battery from 25 to 30 and number of driving cycle is 3.

Result –

Vehicle completed 45Km distance with battery modulus 30, although battery is discharged after 49Km.

Study 3 - Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file and compare results in table and conclude.

Steps –

1. Load PRIUS_Jpn_defaults file.

2.Click on continue button and click on check box of gradeability test.

3. Click on grade options to change values of parameters required for gradeability test or leave with default values.

Result –

We used default values of parameter, where speed was 55mph. we got gradeability 1.7% at apeed 55mph.

Changing value of speed from 55mph to 60mph, we got gradeability 1.5%.
