Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Objectives: To perform endurance test of default electric vehicle

To perform gradeability test of Prius Japan model

Procedure:

A. To perform endurance test of Default electric vehicle with 500 kg cargo mass and FTP cycle

1. Start the advisor tool through MATLAB and load the ev_default_in model

2. Input the cargo mass as 500 kg and click on continue to go to the next panel.

3. Select the FTP Drive cycle. In the statistics, we can see that the cycle runs for 17.77km. To check endurance for 45km, we need to repeat the cycle atleast 3 times. Lets run it 4 times.

4. We get the results figure as shown:

We can see that the distance coverred is 41.4 km.

Thus the vehicle fails to complete 45 km on FTP drive cycle.

B. Endurance test by changing battery capacity:

1. Lets increase battery capacity by 10% and check the results:

In the battery capacity, we change number of modules from 25 to 28 and run the simulation again:

Results:

As seen above, the distance covered is 46.3 km. Thus by increasing battery capacity we have achieved the endurance target.

C. Gradeability test with Prius Japan model:

1. Load the Prius Japan model and click continue

2. Tick mark the gradeability test option and click on grade options.

3. We will be conducting the gradeability test for a duration of 120 sec at various speeds.

The results for the first iterations:

Thus the gradeability at 25 mph is 18%

4. We run the same test at various speeds. The table of speeds vs gradeability is as follows:

Thus as the speed increases, the gradeability decreases for the given duration.
