Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Procedure to open the ADVISOR tool in Matlab:-

1. Download "Advance Vehicle Simulator". Extract the file and save it in a folder (untitled in this case).
2. Open Matlab, and choose the path where the folder is located.
3. Right-click on the folder -> Add to path -> Select folders and subfolders.
4. Write "advisor" in the command window. ADVISOR Tool will open.

Q.1) For the EV_defaults_in file, if the cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel 45 km with an FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

Ans:

1. Open command the advisor tool, and select EV_defaults_in the load file option.
2. Change the cargo mass present at the bottom right of the tool and select continue.
3. Change the drive cycle to "FTP Drive cycle" i.e. "CYC_FTP"

We can observe in the yellow box, that the vehicle can travel only 17.77 km if the cargo mass is 500 kg with an FTP drive cycle.

Q.2) In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Ans:

When we changed the number of modules of energy storage version: rint, type: li, ESS_L17_temp, we observed that the SOC was changing proportionally. We have analyzed this with 3 different modules and found that SOC was changing as we changed the modules.

Q.3) Perform grade ability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in a table and conclude.

Ans:

1. In the ADVISOR Tool, change the "PIRUS_Jpn_Defaults_in" in the load file. Click continue.
2. By changing the speed, it is found that the gradability also changes.
