Challenge

Week 3

Objective:-

To check for the geometrical errors and mesh with the given element Quality criteria for the given hood model.

Procedure:-

CAD Cleanup

Open the CAD model in ANSA and Check for the geometry.

Check Manager`->`Geometry`->`Execute

Fix all those errors that appear in geometry check.

Inactivate the unwanted parts in component. Property`->`Switch Off or On the bulb

Measure the thickness of both inner and outer hood using measure node to node. Node can be created using spot weld tool.

Extract the mid surface for both inner and outer hood using offset tool. Set different new PID for both the mid surface.

Manage the orientaion of mid surface as per the requirement using oriemt tool.

TOPO Cleanup:-

Remove all the unnecessary cuts and hot points which can probably create quality criteria issuse.

Before topo cleanup (outer hood):-

After Topo cleanup outer hood:-

Before Topo cleanup (inner hood):-

After Topo cleanup (inner hood):-

Meshing:-

Select the mesh mode and select the quality criteria. Provide the lenght of element using length tool with minimum and maximum length.

Start meshing the each part of model using best tool and refine the mesh using restructure, smooth, swap, join, split etc. Number of hot point can either be increased or decreased using Num +/- to get better mesh.

Outer Hood:-

Inner Hood:-

Conclusion:-

Topo clean up should be done in such a way that sharp corners can be avoided. Very large part should be cut into smaller otherwise it may be diffucult in joining opposite trias.
