Week 3
Aim: To check for the geometrical errors and mesh the given component as per the provided element Quality criteria.
Procedure:
- First openedthe model file using the File open
- First switched to mesh module to change Length in Perimeters to have more refined visuality of the components of model.
Component 1(Inner Part)
Component 2(Outer Part)
Component 3 & 4 (Hinges & Latch)
- Then checked the opened model for any geometrical errors by performing Geometric checks under the checks manager.
- For this selected one of the component of the model to work on by hiding all other component.
Component 1(Inner Part)
Component 2(Outer Part)
Component 3(Hinges)
Component 4(Latch)
- After correcting the geometric errors using the various tools. The corrected components are shown in pics.
Component 1(Inner Part)
Component 2(Outer Part)
Component 3 & 4 (Hinges & Latch)
6. Measured the thickness of all components.
-
Mid surface(Inner Part)
-
Mid surface(Outer Part)
Mid surface (Hinges)
- Mid surface (Latch)
- 7. Now extracted mid surface for the all the components of model using the offset faces option under the Faces menu in the TOPO module. Also assigned the PID for the same using the Set PID option under the Faces.

Mid surface(Outer Part)

PID Assigned
8. Now performed Geometric Cleanup on the created Mid surfaces to check for any error. If found corrected.
9. After this changed the Length of created mid surfaces as per target element length using the Length option in Perimeters in the mesh module.
Component 1(Inner Part)
Component 2(Outer Part)
Component 3(Hinges)
Component 4(Latch)
10. Now set the desired Quality criteria’s using the Quality Criteria tool in the Utilities.
11. Now meshed the components as per the set criteria’s using the Spot mesh option under the Mesh Generation in Mesh module.
Component 1(Inner Part)
Component 2(Outer Part)
Component 3(Hinges)
Component 4(Latch)
12. Then corrected the elements failing using the Smooth, Reconstruct options under the shell mesh in Mesh Module. Also used Split elements option under the elements in Topo Mode.
Component 1(Inner Part)
Component 2(Outer Part)
Component 3(Hinges)
Component 4(Latch)
13. To visualize the assigned thickness to the mid surfaces of components activated the Draw shells as Solid option in the Quality criteria< Presentation parameters.
Result: The resulting model is free from any error and is also meshed as per required quality criteria’s along with assigned thickness.

Learning Outcome: In this challenge,
- Learned to perform geometrical cleanup of model.
- Also learned to mesh the model as per set quality criteria’s.
- Learned the use of various tools in ANSA.
Conclusion:
- Performed Geometric cleaning on the provided model.
- Extracted mid surfaces manually for each component of the model.
- Meshed the components as per required criteria with elements passing the set criteria’s.
