Week 2 Railwheel and Track

Aim-

Perform a static structural analysis on the Railwheel and Track setup and

Case 1: Multiply the bearing load by 5 times and compare the results with the load of 100000 N (As done in week 2 video). Compare the Total Deformation, Equivalent stress and the life under both the loads

Case 2: Implement a User defined result and calculate the Total Deformation from this result and check if it is the same as that obtained by the inbuilt result by ANSYS for a load of 100000 N.

 Procedure-

1) Open the ansys workbench and drag the static structural, click on engineering data to assign new matrial other than standard structural steel.

2) right click on geomerty to import the required model, then double click on geometry to open spaceclain to checdk for any abnormality, if everthing is correct then close the spaceclaim

3)double click on model to open model browser, go to connections and rightclick on it, select rename based on defination, now change the connection between railroad and wheel from bonded to frictional with friction coefficient of 0.3

and wheel to bearing from bonded to frictionless

now apply body to ground joints to railroad for fixed support

on bearing apply body to ground translation joint

no wheel provide body to ground planer joint

4) go to analysis settings and add 5 steps to this, and from 2nd to 5th step add minimum time step of 1e-3 and maximum of 0.1, auto time steping on, define by time, large diflection to on, in output control tick everything to yes.

5) now go to static structural and add bearing load of 100000N for 1st case and 500000N for 2nd case to bearing outer faces and joint load>>Displacemnet of 0-500 mm for 5 steps

 6) In Solutions add Total Deformation, Equivalent stress and the life and solve the cases

CASE 1

CASE 2

Conclusion-

For Case 1 when load increased from 100000 to 500000N the Stress induced increased from 89.46 to 399.54 MPa thus reducing the life of wheel from 8.07e5 mins to 2713 mins only, total deformation remains same

for Case 2 , for total deformation the equation used ux+uy+uz gives 206.61 mm of displacement in x,y,z direction which is less then the total deformation for above case.
