Week 2 Railwheel and Track
NOTE: I was unable to upload the results folder into the challenge. Instead, I have added images of results into this.
OBJECTIVE:
Case 1: To compare the total deformation, equivalant stress and life of a rail wheel and track simulation under a bearing load of 100000N and 500000N.
Case2: To compare the total deformation meaured by inbuilt option with a user defined result for a bearing load of 500000N.
Loadcase Setup:
100000N is applied as the bearing load in case 1. The load is applied on the inner surface of the hole in the wheel. The results are compared when the bearing load is increased 5 times to 500000N.
In Case 2, a user defined result for total deformation is created using the expression USUM and the obtained result is compared with the default available Total Deformation option.
Results:
The below table shows the compariosn of results in both simulations in case 1:
| Bearing Load (100000N) | Bearing Load (500000N) | |
| Total Deformation (mm) | 1001 | 1001.2 |
| Equivalant Stress (MPa) | 103.52 | 421.29 |
| Life | 1e6 | 1e6 |
Total Deformation:

Equivalant Stress:

Life:

Case 2: The comparison of default result of Total Deformation and User defined Result (USUM) of Total deformation for a bearing load of 100000N is given in the below pictures:

Conclusion:
Case 1: Total deformation and life of the model in both simulations with 100000N and 500000N remains the same. The equivalant stress of the model with 100000N bearing load is 103.52 MPa whereas with 500000N bearing load it is 421.29 MPa.
Case 2: Total deformation measured for a bearing load of 100000N with the default option and User defined option (USUM) remains the same.
