Challenge

Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

AIM;

For the given model, check for the geometrical errors and perform Topology cleanup accordingly. Set three different target lengths as three different cases and mesh the model.

  1. Practiced using the boolean operations more on how to isolate surfaces , make difficult selections easy and to even check if our selection is correct.
  1. Learned how to do a perfect topo Clean up , by inserting surfaces on the part using both new surface option and the fill hole hole option appropriately.
  1. Learned to clean up the surface and remove any small cuts so that they don’t interfere with the meshing process.
  1. Learned about properties manager and how to create new PID’s , how to name them , give them colour and also how to assign them.
  1. Learned how to delete a PID and to check for any extra surfaces using the undelete and topo option .
  1. Learned in more detail how to assign the target length , max length and min length and mesh the surfaces properly depending on the size of the object.
  1. Understood when to appropriately use the lock option on the screen to make selections and isolation etc.

SNIPSHOTS and PROCEDURE;

I first ran geometric checks

Then used the various options under new surface and fill hole option to perform the topo clean up

Used the cut option and right click to remove unwanted lines that might interfere while meshing

Then i created and assigned the respective PID's to the various parts

Performed meshing by chnaging the mesh parameters and quality criteria as well as lenght of perimeters and macros to get meshes of different lenghts.

This is a snap of the final result whith target lenght three , also gave the best result.

RESULT; Refer the uploaded file below

CONCLUSION; I have learned and understood perfectly how to create new surfaces , how to perform a topo clean up , how to create PID’s and how to assign them while making appropriate selections using the PID region selection option , and also how to mesh the surfaces or different parts depending on the size of that particular part. Using different mesh lengths gave different results , using a lower mesh length gives a better result and allows us to capture the geometry better. Since while using a higher mesh length , the geometry of the spring and the valve head are not captured properly.
