Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

Answer For 1mm Geometry

AIM: To perform the surface meshing of Pressure Valve by setting the target length and element type.

Procedure:

  • Firstly we check for geometry error such as double con, edges etc (if found then clear it out by using faces, fill holes etc options)
  • Then we use the tab of HOT POINT, to use the Parametric option
  • Then we use the Multi Project.
  • Then we use the tab of FACES on it we use the feature of cut to create the symmetricity
  • Then create a required PID such as below:

  • After it, we switch the tab to MESH, in it we use the tab of PERIMETER, in it we use the LENGTH tab (perimeter & macros) for deciding the mesh length.
  • Then we adjust the mesh parameter and quality criteria

Mesh Parameter:

  • Target length = 1
  • Max target length = 1.5
  • Min target length = 0.5
  • Switch to TRIA mode

Then we check the geometry

Then finally we use the SPOT MESH, to generate the MESH as follows (the 2nd image is of wireframe type): -

Learning Outcomes:

  • Got to know about how to proceed and generate the Mesh in a directional way.
  • Got to know about the concept of nodes and different forms of meshes.
  • Got to know the concept of various tools such as parametrical option, the concept of projection, and cut feature too.

Result & Conclusion:

  • Total triads: 211458.
  • Fully generated TRIA mesh and as per required target length.

Answer For 3mm Geometry

  • Then we adjust the mesh parameter and quality criteria

Mesh Parameter:

  • Target length = 3
  • Max target length = 4
  • Min target length = 2
  • Switch to TRIA mode

Then we check the geometry

Then finally we use the SPOT MESH, to generate the MESH as follows (the 2nd image is of wireframe type): -

Learning Outcomes:

  • Got to know about how to proceed and generate the Mesh in a directional way.
  • Got to know about the concept of nodes and different forms of meshes.
  • Got to know the concept of various tools such as parametrical option, the concept of projection, and cut feature too.

Result & Conclusion:

  • Total triads: 24116.
  • Fully generated TRIA mesh and as per required target length.

Answer For 5mm Geometry

AIM: To perform the surface meshing of Pressure Valve by setting the target length and element type.

Procedure:

  • Firstly we check for geometry error such as double con, edges etc (if found then clear it out by using faces, fill holes etc options)
  • Then we use the tab of HOT POINT, to use the Parametric option

  • Got to know about the concept of nodes and different forms of meshes.
  • Got to know the concept of various tools such as parametrical option, the concept of projection, and cut feature too.

Result & Conclusion:

  • Total triads: 8904.
  • Fully generated TRIA mesh and as per required target length.

FINAL COMPARITIVE CONCLUSION BETWEEN 1/3/5 mm MESH:

  • Impact on total number of triads

1mm=211458

3mm=24116

5mm=8904

As a result, as the total length increases from 1mm to 5mm the total number of triads decreases as obvious.

  • As the distance between the nodes of the spring is approximately as 3.4mm

As a result for the 1mm mesh there will be no problem to mesh the spring, but for the 3mm mesh there will be slight meshing issue around the spring dimension, but for the 5mm the meshing were very poor for the spring as it exceed the limit of 3.4 mm.

Following are the images of 1/3/5mm mesh spring, column and valve head (encircle in red shows the defected mesh):
