2. Explain the difference between Fixed and Enforced support conditions in STAADPro.

Answer:- Fixed Support degrees of freedom which are to be treated as fully restrained, Hence, those degrees of freedom are not considered for the stiffness matrix, and their value is not calculated.

But in Enforced degrees of freedom which are free to displace are assigned springs of zero stiffness. Hence, for all the 6 degrees of freedom at such supports, the displacements are calculated.

3.

1. Explain the steps involved in the analysis of a model using STAAD Pro sequentially.

Answer:-

  1. Go to the Analysis Tab
  2. Select Define Commands
  3. A new window will open
  4. Click on Performed Analysis
  5. Click on add and close
  6. Click on Run Analysis
  7. Save the File
  8. Agian Run
  9. A new window PopUp
  10. Check any Errors.
  11. Resolve If Any Errors using Commands and Put Plane as space.
  12. Now Again Click on run Analysis.

2. Explain the two ways in which a structural framework/model can be created in STAAD Pro software.

Answer:- The two ways to model the structural framework,

  1. Creating model by node by node,
  2. Creating model by Bay Framework.

3. Elaborate on the different support conditions in STAAD Pro.

Answer:-

1. Fixed:-All the transitional and rotational displacements are restrained

2. Pinned:-Transitional displacements are restrained but rotational moments are not restrained

3. Fixed But:- The fixed support is similar to pinned support it allows us to provide the degree of freedom to view the displacement either translation or rotational

4. Enforced:- When enforced supports are assigned to the structure the software allows the springs to itself and the displacement can be calculated however there is no provision to provide the spring constant

5. Enforced But:- The software assigns the spring itself with zero stiffness or high stiffness.

6. Multilinear Spring

7. Foundation

8. Inclined

9. Tension/Compression-Only Springs

4. How will you extract the stress distribution for a staircase slab?

Answer:-

  1. After analyzing go to the Postprocessing & select load combination
  2. Click on plate results.
  3. Select Plate Stress contour & select load combination.
  4. Check Max absolute stress
  5. Check Major Principle Stress
  6. Check MX(Local) etc.

5. Explain the different ways to view SFD & BMD in STAAD Pro.

Answer:-

  1. After Analysis
  2. Go to PostProcessing
  3. Check SFD and BMD by clicking on SFD and BMD tool.
  4. Next Click on LAyout and click on Graph to view SFD and BMD
  5. Double-click on Member.

Practical
1. Analyze the following structural elements and validate the results
A. Simply Supported Beam
a. A Simply supported beam with two point loads symmetrically placed
b. Span L = 20m
c. Load P = 50kN each
d. Both P located at 5m from each support

Aim:- To analyze a simply supported beam and validate the result as per the given condition in question.

Procedure:-

  1. create a new file as a metric unit in STAAD.Pro software is shown below.
  2. go to geometry and create two nodes at a distance of 20m.
  3. and create a beam by adding those two nodes.
  4. now, go to properties and define the beam size as shown below.
  5. assign the beam as assigned to the view.
  6. go to material and define material as concrete and assign it.
  7. go to support > create simply support (only restraint at Fy)
  8. now, let's add a load condition in our beam
  9. first to create a dead load and live load condition.
  10. In dead load, the condition creates a self-load of -1 in the Y direction.
  11. In Live load, the condition we have to create two concentrated forces of -50kN at 5m & 15m in the global Y direction.
  12. Now assign all the loads in our beam.
  13. Now let's analyze the beam for that go to Assign Tab
  14. Click on the define command And Add Perform Analysis.
  15. now Run the analysis.

Result:-

  1. Displacement
  2. SFD
  3. BMD
  4. reactions

B.Fixed Beam
a. Span L = 16m
b. Uniformly Distributed Load w=9kN/m

Aim:- To analyze a Fixed-beam and validate the result as per the given condition in question.

Procedure:-

  1. create a new file as a metric unit in STAAD.Pro software is shown below.
  2. go to geometry and create two nodes at a distance of 16m.
  3. and create a beam by adding those two nodes.
  4. now, go to properties and define the beam size as shown below.
  5. assign the beam as assigned to the view.
  6. go to material and define material as concrete and assign it.
  7. go to support > create fixed support.
  8. now, let's add a load condition in our beam
  9. first to create a dead load and live load condition.
  10. In dead load, the condition creates a self-load of -1 in the Y direction.
  11. In Live load, the condition we have to create a uniformly distributed load of 9kN/m as shown below.
  12. Now assign all the loads in our beam.
  13. Now let's analyze the beam for that go to the Assign Tab.
  14. Click on the define command And Add Perform Analysis.
  15. now Run the analysis.

Result:-

  1. Displacement
  2. SFD
  3. BMD
  4. reactions
  5. graph
