Week 2 Challenge
1.
BIM Stands for Building information modelling.
Bim uses
- 3D models to capture, explore, and maintain consistent and coordinated planning, design, construction.
- Provides greater project insight for cost, schedule, and constructability.
- Uses and shares consistent data whether you’re at your desk or in the field.
- Enables prompt response to change with processes that are smarter and faster.
Advantages of BIM:
- Improved Communication and teamwork.
- Cost Assesment based on the project model.
- Project visualization during the planning stage.
- Lowering the entire duration of the project.
2.
Aim: To Pick an element present in the categories and insert it into the Revit Model.
Tools: File,open,insert,load family,load.
Procedure:
- First open any saved revit file with a layout plan.
- And from the toolbar select insert option.
- After that select load family icon where we can find different types of categories of elements.
- Select a appropriate element.
- And insert that element into the revit model.
- From architectural menu select the option component to use elements selected from insert.

Result: An element is successfully inserted from the categories.
3.
Aim: To open a file with architectural template and save the file with an appropriate name with all its information and set upto a maximum of 3 backup files.
Tools: File option,Manage option,Project Information tool,Project Units.
Procedure:
To open a project file with an architectural template and save it with a appropriate name:
- Click on new file and select the new project and select the architectural template.
- Click on file and then click on save as option and save with appropriate name in the desired loaction.

To setup the project units to metric/Imperial and complete the project information.
- Go to manage and click on the project units option at the left.
- A box pops up where we can change the units
- Change the units as desired
- Beside the project units option there is an another option called project information click on it and a box pops up.
- Fill it with the required project information.

To Setup the maximum backups for the file upto 3
- Go to file option click on save as and then click on project.
- A box pops up and click on the options there.
- In the file save options enter the maximum backups for the file as 3.

Result: All the mentioned actions are successfully completed using revit software.
4.
Aim: To Understand the concept of Levels and Grids and
Create the following Levels: ( Convert to metric equivalents if metric is your units)
Ground Floor @ 0’
First Floor @ 10’
Second Floor @ 20’
Roof @ 30’
Grids Transverse Grids A, B,C,D, E @ 10’ spacing
Longitudinal Grids from 1 to 10 @ 20’ spacing
Tools: level option and grid option.
Procedure :
The Concept Of Levels:
- In the architecture menu under the datum tab there is a option called as level.
- Click that option to add levels.
- We should open an elevation view to add levels.
- Enter the required distance below the label where the distance between levels is shown to change the distance.

The Concept Of Grids:
- In the architecture menu under the datum tab there is a option called as grids.
- Click that option to add grids.
- Horizontal grids are tagged with alphabets and vertical grids with numerical.

Result: Given Levels and Grids are successfully made by using revit software.
5.
Aim: To Create a 3d model of residential unit layout.
Tools: wall tool,Properties tool,Room option.
Procedure :
- From the architectural tool select the wall option.
- Using wall option draw the desired layout.

Result : 3d Model of residential layout is successfully created using revit software.
6.
Aim: In the layout Created add the level of details you are planning to include-Dimensions of the room, components you plan to add in the residential unit.
Tools: walls option,architectural toolbar,room
Procedure:
- Select walls from architectural and change it to interior walls.
- Mark the walls as required and make rooms.

Naming the rooms:
- From the architecture menu and then click on room option.
- Click on the closed interior spaces to name them.

Result: Drafting and naming the rooms is successfully completed in the layout created.
7.
Aim: To identify the residential model elements such as door,Windows,Tables,Chair,Couch,Bed,Lamps from the library and insert them to the model.
Tools: insert,load family option,components,properties browser.
Procedure:
- Click on the insert option from the toolbar
- Click on the load family
- A window pops up select the required family to be loaded.
- And next from the architectural menu click on components to use model elements selected from the insert.
- The size of the elements can be changed from properties browser.

Result: Identifying all the residential model elements and inserting them into the model is done successfully.
