Week 2 Challenge
1.1 Steps to assign circular section to a column
(a) click on properties from work flow page
(b) now click on define option to define section
(c) spectfy the thickness and matrial under circular option
(d) then click on add
(e) now select the column from view window
(f) then select the circular section then click on assign
1.2 Steps to assign unit are
(a) under the geomeatry tab click on input unit option
(b) then select the units , then click on apply
1.3 parameters that are required to assign the bay frame are - lenght , width and height . also number of bays along lenght , width and height .
1.4 Few codal standards incorporated in STAAD Pro software are IS 456 , IS 800 , IS 10262
1.5 We can specify design compressive strength for a RCC section by
(a) click on design option under work flow page controll , then select the IS 456 code
(b) now click on define parameters , select FC option
(c) type the deesired compressive strength , then click on add
(d) select the required section now click on assign to the selected beam . It will be assigned to the
selected section
2.1 Steps for RCC design are -
(a) First creat geomeatry of the building either by using nodal option or structure wizzard
(b) Now define the sections and then assign the sections
(c) assign type of support to the foundation
(d) define the material and then assign it
(e) now apply the load cases like dead , live , earthquake , wind load and then run analysis command to check wether there is any error
(f) now apply the design parameters and then again run the analysis command
2.2 Difference between Fixed and Enforced support condition is , In support we have two simmilar options fixed and enforced . Both are same with respect to Fx , Fy, Fz and Mx,My,Mz only difference is that enforced option provide certain amount of displacement by specified quantity .
3.1 The steps involved in analysis of a model using STAAD Pro are
(a) first steo is to create geometry of the building as specified in the plan
(b) next step is to determine the section to the given geometry , which can be done by clicking on define under the propeties section . there we can specify the section dimension and then after we can assign it to the given section
(c) now we have to assign the materials to the section , which can be done by clicking on materials tab and then selecting the type of materials and then assigning it to the materials
(d) now we can specify the supports like fixed or pined etc. this option is available under supports tab
(e) then loading is applied . under the loading first we have to apply earthquake loads then wind loads then after dead and live load . these can be assign from loading tab.
(f) after applying the loads we have to run the analysis to check wether there is any kind of error .
(g) now we can apply the design parameters uner the design tab . there we have to select the code and then select the design parameters and assign it .
(h) in the end we have to run the analysis .
3.2 The two ways by which a structural framework/model can be created are
(a) first method is by node method , that is typing the node coordinates and by the use of translate and repete option we can create the copy of nodes which are already been created
(b) Second method is by using structural wizzard option . Under this various pre defined structure are already been created . only we have to define the number of span and length .
3.3 Different type of support that are available in staad pro are-
(a) fixed support - this support does not allow any kind of rotation and the translation of beam or column in any direction
(b) pined support - this support does not allow any kind of translation of beam or column in any direction but alow rotation in all the three directions .
(c) fixed but support - this is custom support where we can create any kind of support like hinged or roller . only we have to release the forces and moment in any of the directions.
(d) enforced support - it is simmilar to fixed support with respect to Fx , Fy, Fz and Mx,My,Mz . only difference is that enforced option provide certain amount of displacement by specified quantity .
3.4 the stress distribution for a staircase slab can be extracted by following steps-
(a) after running the analysis command stress distribution can be obtained under the postprocessing mode
(b) in post processing mode , click on plate results . now under the plate stress contour tab select the type of stress then click apply and then ok.
3.5 the different ways to view SFD & BMD in STAAD Pro are -
(a) first method - In post processing mode just double click on beam or column . then click on shear bending tab . under there we can get the SFD AND BMD of the selected member .
(b) second method - In post processing mode click on Mz option (or My ,Mx) under view result tab . this will show the SFD and BMD of entire structure .
