- Self piercing riveting
- Hemming process
- Adhesive Bonding
3.What is Resistance Welding & its application in the automotive sector?
Answer:Resistance welding is the joining of metals by applying pressure and passing current for a length of time through the metal area which is to be joined.
Types of Resistance welding are
- Resistance Spot Welding
- Resistance Seam Welding
- Resistance Projection

Its application are
- Used to weld nuts and bolts.
- Used to manufacture Containers,Radiators & Heat exchangers.
4.What is fusion welding & types of fusion welding with its application in the automotive sector?
Answer:
- It is a process that involves either consumanable or a non consumable electrode
- A n arc produce between tip of the electrode and work piece to be welded by use of an AC or DC POWER SUPPLY.
Types of Arc Welding
- Manual Arc Welding
- Gas shielded metal arc Welding
- Gas shielded tungsten arc welding
- Submerged arc welding
- Plasma arc welding
Application of Plasma welding
- Used for most types of sheet metal welding.
- Fabrication of pressure vessels and steel structures.
- Automotive industry and home improvement industry.
5.What is the 3-2-1 principle?
Answer:
The 3-2-1 principle of location is used to constrain the movement of workpiece along the three axes XX, YY, and ZZ. This is achieved by providing six locating points, 3 pins in base plate, 2 pins in vertical plane and 1 pin in a plane which is perpendicular to first two planes.
6.Define Body coordinate system?
Answer:
- The Body cordinate System has been wedely used in the automotive industry for drawing of body parts, product and process design.
- A coordinate system is a referance system consisting of a set of points .lines and surfaces, used to define the positions of points in space in either two or three dimensions.
- In generally BCS is also called as Car line and Body line.

7.Elaborate Body plane system & its essentials.
Answer:
- Body planes are the referance planes in an automotive car. These planes are used to define the GD&T of all car parts in a automotive domine.
- Body planes are three mutually perpendicular imaginary planes. These are generally considered to be present at all the driver position or sometimes at the engine location or at the front end of all the car, depending on the customer.
- The Measurements from the body planes to the parts are called as body line dimensions.
- These body planes are called as
- FOL Front "o" Line.
- COL Centre "O" Line.
- BOL Body "O" Line.
- The Measurement along FOL or X axis is called as F/A Front Aft.
- The Measurement along COL or Y axis is called as C/C Cross Car.
- The Measurement along BOL or Z axis is called as U/DUP DOWN.
