Week 2 Bevel Gear Challenge
Objective: to perform Grid Dependency Test on a Bevel Gear Simulation.
Software Used: Ansys 2021 R2.
Theory:
Grid Dependency Test:
Grid dependency test is an investigation to know the solution dependency on the grid size by running the simulation with varied mesh size, finer the mesh gives higher accuracy of results.
Solution through discretization of governing differential equation depend upon number of grid points, increase in grid points can increase the accuracy of solution. Whenever the solution doesn’t change upon increasing the grid points then the solution is considered as accurate.
Since, the solutions are interpolated at the nodes to get an approximate result, increased number of nodes can increase the computational time and power required to complete the simulation.
Purpose of Grid dependency test:
An independence test was conducted to assess the optimal grid resolution range derived based on a previous study to exclude possible biases owing to subjective judgment in the selection of grid conditions
