Week -2
1.Simulink model for doorbell using solenoid:
Aim:
To create a Simulink model of a doorbell which is controlled by solenoid.
Simulink model:
Components of the circuit:
- Pulse generator (Input signal)
- Battery
- Logic controlled switch
- Solenoid
- Ideal translational motion sensor
Working of Doorbell circuit:
- The input switch of the doorbell is simulated by a pulse generator with a period of 4 seconds with 50% duty cycle. So, it will generate the ON time of 2 seconds.
- This will drive the logic-controlled switch PS to operate the solenoid in the duty of 2 sec ON 2 sec OFF.
- The operation of the solenoid is verified by the translational sensor. The scope waveform shows the solenoid is ON for 2 sec and off for 2 sec.
Solenoid position:
2.Simulation model of thermistor-controlled cooling fan:
Aim:
Make a Simulink model to control the cooling fan. Fan should be ON when temperature of the source exceeds 25 ˚C.
Temperature source dutyè0 to 10 sec 20 ˚C, 10 to 30 sec 27 ˚C, 30 to 50 sec 23 ˚C.
Simulink Circuit:
Critical components of the circuit:
- Signal builder (Thermal input)
- Ideal temperature source
- Thermistor (NTC)
- Sensing resistor
- Battery
- Voltage sensor
- Logic controlled switch
- Controlled voltage source
- DC motor (As fan)
- Ideal rotational motion sensor
Working of the circuit:
- The temperature of the source is controlled by the input given by signal builder. Temperature of the source is set as per the requirement 0 to 10 sec 20 ˚C, 10 to 30 sec 27 ˚C, 30 to 50 sec 23 ˚
- Thermistor chosen for the model is NTC and its reference temperature is 25˚ sensing resistor value is set as 1KᲲ. Battery voltage is set as 110VDC.
- The voltage drop across the sensing resistor is captured and converted into logic level 0 and 1. This logic will control the voltage source of the DC motor.
- 1 means On and 0 means OFF. When the temperature is above 25˚C, the motor will turn on and that can be verified by the rotational motion sensor output.
Input signal as Temperature:
Fan ON/OFF status:
Result:
The Simulink model of the doorbell and the thermistor-controlled fan is done and the output waveforms are also attached for the verification.
