What is a butterfly valve?
A butterfly valve is a type of quarter-turn valve that is used to control the flow of a fluid through a pipe or duct. It gets its name from the flat, disc-shaped closure element inside the valve, which resembles the wings of a butterfly. The valve operates by rotating this disc or "butterfly" to control the flow.
Key features and characteristics of butterfly valves include:
1. Quarter-Turn Operation: Butterfly valves are operated with a simple quarter-turn (90-degree) movement of the disc. When the disc is rotated parallel to the flow direction, the valve is fully open, allowing maximum flow. When it is rotated perpendicular to the flow direction, the valve is fully closed.
2. Quick and Precise Control: Butterfly valves offer quick and precise control of fluid flow. The disc can be positioned at any angle between fully open and fully closed to regulate the flow rate as needed.
3.Low Pressure Drop: Butterfly valves typically have a lower pressure drop compared to some other types of valves, making them suitable for applications where pressure loss needs to be minimized.
4.Compact and Lightweight: Butterfly valves are relatively compact and lightweight compared to some other valve types, which can be advantageous in certain applications where space and weight constraints exist.
5. Wide Range of Sizes: They are available in a wide range of sizes, from small valves used in household plumbing to large industrial valves used in pipelines and industrial processes.
6. Resilient and High-Performance Seals: Butterfly valves can be equipped with different types of seals, including resilient seats made of materials like rubber or elastomers, which provide a tight seal and are suitable for a variety of fluids.
7. Applications: Butterfly valves are used in a broad range of applications, including HVAC systems, water treatment plants, chemical processing, power plants, and various industrial processes where control of fluid flow is required.
8.Types: There are different types of butterfly valves, including concentric, eccentric, and triple offset designs. The choice of type depends on factors such as the nature of the fluid, pressure, temperature, and application requirements.
It's important to note that while butterfly valves offer advantages in terms of quick operation and low pressure drop, they may not be suitable for applications with high-temperature or high-pressure requirements, as other valve types like gate valves or globe valves may be more appropriate in those situations.
The Assembly of the Butterfly Valve is done
For the highlighted Body as shaft is inserted'
A Shaft with a retainer is attached
Disc Plate is attached using the Screws
A lever is attached and alligned as per the key slot
Final Assembly Part
Drafting is done & GD&T is applied for the butterfly valve
