Week 12:- Documentation Challenge

Bill of Materials(BOM):A bill of materials (BOM) is a centralized source of information containing a list of items used to manufacture a product and the instructions on how to do so. Often shown in a hierarchical way, a bill of materials (BOM) lists the finished product at the top, down to individual components and materials.

Creating an accurate bill of materials (BOM) is vital because it ensures that parts are available when needed as well as ensuring that the assembly process is as efficient as possible. If the BOM is not accurate, it can cause production to halt, which increases operating costs, as time is needed to locate missing parts, start another production order, or until the correct process of assembly is determined.

Items included in a BOM are the part number, part name, quantity, unit of measurement, assembly references, method of parts construction, and additional notes.

Bill of Parts(BOPs):A ‘bought-out’ part is a part used in a machine or equipment that is not manufactured in-house by the manufacturer of the machine or equipment. These can be. standard off-the-shelf parts from another manufacturer, for example a power supply cable or a rechargeable battery.

Metodology:

To create Bill of materials we have to go to the analyze tab in Catia and then go for bill of materials option. We have to convert the sheet into PDF format. This way our bill of materials will be ready.

To create bought out parts we have to cut the bought out parts from the BOM list and prepare a separate list. Cylinders for swivel clamp units and power clamp units and also cylinders for retractable pin units are bought out parts which should be deleted from the BOM. Hardwares and Shims are also listed under bought out parts.

Conclusion:

Hence BOM and BOP is prepared.
