Week 11 Challenge

Aim-: calculate thermal stress and apply it into stadd pro

Given data-:

grade of concrete=40N/mm^2, Delhi region, span=9m, Box Girder=1.5*1.5*0.3m,

pier=2.5m, width of deck slab=7m, width of piercap=6m, thickness of deck slab=0.55m,

depth of pier cap=1.1m, ht of girder=0.9m, ht of pier=10m

E=5000(40)^1/2=31622.7N/mm^2

@Delhi location maximum temperature=48 deg C, minimum temp=2 deg C

Effective tep diff=48-2/2+10=33 deg C

stress due to temp= α*t*E=12*10^-6*33*5000(40)^1/2=12.52Kn/m^2

Analyse it in Staddpro-:

Create a node @ (0,0,0) origin and as width of the slab is 7m ,put 7 at z and create another node and add a beam

select the beam and used translitional repeate and linked steps give span of bridge as 9m @ X direction

as from figure copy the origin node @ 12m and create a pier and copy by using traslitional repeate to Zdir and X dir

assign the suipport to the pier as fixed support

define the properties to the member as given in question and as per figure

as pier dia-2.5m, as it is box girder select tapered tube and square=1.5*1.5*.3m and cross beam as 0.6*0.6m

Assign the whole property to the respective member of bridge

create a plate for deck slab and copy that @X dir and Z dir by length/0.5

assign the thickness to the plate as from figure as 0.55m

add load case as temperature load and as per region add temperature 48deg C

run the analysis after showing 0error o warning go to the post processing

the plate results MX local gives the maximum moment

above whole plate stress , moment z ,y and report of bridge as shown above and whole bridge shown in 3D rendering
