Week 11 Challenge
Q1. In this question it is asked to find the most compatible 3-Phase separator for the following flows:
Liquid flow rate: 5000 bbl/day
Water flow rate: 2000 bbl/day
Gas Flow rate: 1.2 MMSCFD (million metric standard cubic feet per day)
Here, according to the flow rates the most suitable 3-Phase separator will be the 3-Phase separator with wier.
The light liquid flow rate is slightly higher than the water flow rate so due to its higher flow rate it will form in the upper layer and slide over the wier to the other compartment, whilst water with its low flow rate will settle down due to its heavy nature. Furthermore, there will be enough residence time for the disengagement of vapor from liquid droplets.
Q2. In this question it is asked to find the most compatible 3-Phase separator for the following flows:
Liquid flow rate: 12000 bbl/day
Given water cut: 25%
Water flow rate: 12000 * (25/100)
12000 * 0.25
3000 bbl/day
Given gas to liquid ratio: 0.2 MMSCF/bbl
12000 * 0.2 MMSCFD
2400 MMSCFD
In this case the water flow rates are very low compared to the liquid rates. Hence, the use of 3-Phase separator with boot will be suitable for this condition. Furthermore, the boot will provide additional liquid head for the low volume of water.
Q3. In this question it is asked to find the gas composition from the two phase separator with some carryover of liquids into the gas stream:
Conditions and Compostion of the stream to be separated:

The carryover Calculations and the carryover setup are shown below:

The separated gas stream with liquid carryover is shown below:

Q4. In this question it is asked to find out the feed stream composition and the separated streams with carryover respectively:
The feed stream is adjusted according to the required conditions of flow rates with the help of two adjusters, the respective file is attached for further review. The conditions and composition of the stream are as follows:

The above image shows the composition of the feed stream as asked in question.
The requires flows of the 3 phases are as follows:

The gas flow rate of 0.5 MMSCFD as required.

The water flow rate of 500 bbl/day as required.

The liquid flow rate of 1500 bbl/day as required.
The carryover setup calculations and the streams with their carryover are shown as follows:

The vapor stream with light liquid carryover.

The light liquid stream with heavy liquid carryover.

The heavy liquid stream with light liquid carryover.
