Car Crash simulation
CAR CRASH SIMULATION USING ANSYS WORKBENCH
OBJECTIVE: to perform a parametric anaysis of a frontal car crash setup and determine the effect of varying the thickness of the model on equivalent stress and deformation.
case1: 0.3mm
case2: 0.5mm
case3: 0.6mm
procedure: create the explicit dynamics in ansys workbench and in engineering data select structural steel and stainless steel.
stainless steel:

structural steel:

model:

symmetry defination: create two symmetry regions for wall and car.

mesh:

analysis settings: set end time as 0.01

fixed support: select the back part faces of the vehicle model to fix them which will not be in contact to the crash test.

displacement: wall is provided a displacement of 500mm in z direction ( towards car)

results:
case1 : 0.3 mm thickness
equivalent stress:

total deformation:

case2 : 0.5 mm thickness
equivalent stress:

total deformation:

case3: 0.6 mm thickness
equivalent stress:

total deformation:

| equivalent stress- MPa | total deformation - mm | |
| case1- 0.3mm | 9170.4 | 889.97 |
| case2- 0.5mm | 9149.5 | 888.54 |
| case3- 0.6mm | 10478 | 419.62 |
conclusion:
testing is done in 3 different cases, where in all the cases thickness is the factor which is increased and analysis is dont to find the deformationa and stress .
by the results i found that deformation is more in 1st case which is less in thickness when compared to other two cases because hardness of the material increases by increasing the thichness of the car body so, case 1 having less thickness which shows more deformation.
