Week 10 Challenge

1. Given data

Rafter span = 50 m

Bay spacing = 8 m

Roof slope = 1 in 10

Height of column = 12 m

Brick wall height = 2 m

Purlin spacing = 1.2 m

Girt spacing = 1.5 m

Number of purlins = Rafter span/purlin spacing

= 50/1.2

= 41.67 = 42 purlins

Number of girts = height of column-brick wall height/girt spacing

= 12-2/1.5

=6.67= 7 girts

2.

3. plan dimension 10m x 5m

Building is situated in Chennai

wall opening is 15 %

Bay spacing = 2.5m.

Code used IS 875 Part 3 :2015

Vz= Vb*k1*k2*k3*k4

Vz= 50*1.08*1.05*1.36*1.15

K1 = 1.08 (Assumed as importnat building)

K2= 1.05(Exposed open terrail with no obstructins)

K3= 1.36 (More than 3 degree slope)

K4= 1.15(For industrial structures)

Vz= 88.67m/sec

Wind pressure(Pz) = 0.6*Vz^2

=0.6*88.67^2

=4717.42N/sq.meter

= 4.71KN/sq.meter

0.7Pz<Pd

Pd=Kd*Ka*Kc*Pz

= 0.9*0.8*0.9*4.717

=3.25kn/sq.meter

0.7*4.71 =3.2

3.2<3.25 safe
