Week 1 Challenge
1. N form truss is suitable for gravity load beacuse W form truss transfers the forces as shear forces and no bending moment transfers happen between two chords. But there is bending moment produced by graviity load so N form truss is suitable to transfers the gravity load.
4. Load on interior beam=
Tributary width= 1/2*(distance to adjacent beam on right)+1/2*(distance to adjacent beam on left)
=1/2*(2+2)
= 2 m,,
Tributary area = 2*8 square meter
Load on interior beam = tributary area * floor load
=16*10 = 160 KN/sqaure meter
Load on exterior beam
= tributary width= 1/2*(0+2) = 1 meter
= tributary area = 2*1 = 2 square meter
Load on exeterior baem = 2*10
=20 KN/square meter
There is no concerntration loads in the question so NO load acting on interior and exterior girder.
5. Given data
Initial length = 2000 m at temperature = -20 `celsious`
temperature= 40 `celsious`
Change in temperature = -20-(+40) = 60 celsious
`nbsp;Thermal expansion of steel = 12*10^-6 celsious`
Change in length △L= α*L*△T`
= 0.0000012*2000*60
= 0.144m
Total length = length at 20 degree celsious+ change in length
= 2000+0.144
= 2000.144 meters
