Challenge

Week 10 - Challenge 3 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features

AIM :

  • To create Door Trim Lower Plastic component using given class A surface.
  • To create the Heat Stakes and the locators considering the design rules mentioned in the video for the door applique using CATIA V5.

Input Surface ( Class A surface)

Tooling Axis

Create extract so that we can create a point and an intersection on the given input surface, create 2 lines at the intersection. Now create a bisecting line, this is our Tooling axis

Draft Analysis on given Class A surface

Class B surface

Offset class A surface to 2.5mm so that we can create a class B surface.

Use extract, extrapolate, and sweep tools in order to clear patches in class B surface

Class C surface

Taking class A as a reference we create Class C surface using spline and sweep tools

Draft angle of 3deg is a must inorder to clear the tooling

Class A, B, C, surfaces join

Using Extrapolate tool at required areas in order to trim and join the class A, class B and class C surface inorder to create a closed body

Draft Analysis on closed part

Four way locators sketch

Four locators are padded using this sketch and a draft angle of 0.5 should be maintained. Use edge fillet and chamfer to create required locator

Heat stake sketch

Heat stake is created by using the sketch and then pad it to required length. Nominal draft of 0.5deg is to be maintained

Heat stake trim with Four way locators

Trim these two bodies inorder to create the heatstake with the locator
