Challenge

Week 10 - Challenge 1- Attachment Feature Creation (Ribs & Screw Boss)

AIM:-

  • To Create the Door Handle Component from the given Class-A surface.
  • To Create the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface meeting the requirements of the draft angle.
  • To Attach B side Features in the component.
  • To perform the Draft analysis on the model.

CREATION OF TOOLING AXIS:

  • I have created the Tooling Axis by using Measure Inertia.
  • In that I have selected the component and I have selected the created geometry.
  • In that I selected the Non-associative geometry and also selected the center of gravity.
  • By selecting it a point creates in the middle of the component and I created a line.
  • That line was considered my tooling axis.

Draft Analysis of A Surface:-

The draft analysis was done on the tooling and axis, checked with 0.5 degrees of the draft, and was positive with it.

B Surface Creation:-

The B surface was created by giving a Fillet value of 2.5mm inside. A Fillet was missed during offset and it was created using the Multisection part and it was joined with B Surface using Join Command.

C Surface Creation:-

The C Surface was created by using the reference surface where the boundary was created from the A Surface and it was selected as the guide curve and the reference surface was selected as the A Surface were the draft angle was given as 87 deg.

RIB Creation:-

RIBS provides a means to economical stiffness and strength in molded parts without increasing overall wall thickness.

They also facilitate

  • Locating and arresting components of an assembly.
  • Providing alignment in mating parts.
  • Acting as stops (or) guides for mechanisms.

RIBS Guidelines:-

  • Draft - 0.5 degrees on the walls of boss
  • Thickness - Typically 40%* of the nominal wall at the base.
  • Height to Diameter Ratio - 3:1
  • Radii - 0.25mm maximum radii.

Screw Boss Creation:-

Screw Bosses find use in many part designs as points for attachments and assembly. The most common variety consists of cylindrical projections with holes designed to receive screws, threaded inserts (or) other types of fastening hardware. As a rule of thumb, the outside diameter of bosses should be within 2 to 2.4 times of the outside diameter of the screw (or) insert.

Screw Boss Guidelines:-

  • Draft - 0.5 degrees on the walls of boss
  • Thickness - Typically 40%* of the nominal wall at the base.
  • Height to Diameter Ratio - 3:1
  • Radii - 0.25mm maximum radii.

Conclusion:-

The Tooling axis and the SolidCAT part with B Side Features is created from the given Class A Surface and Draft Analysis is Performed.
