Challenge

Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge

Aim-

For this challenge, you will have to simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket. You will need to use 3 different non linear materials for the bucket and analyse their behaviour for the same velocity of bullet. Apply the conditions for bullet as mentioned in the video itself. Attach an animation to show the behaviour in the three cases.

Procedure-

1) Open ansys workbench and drag explicit dynamic into project schematics and open engineering data, now select 3 non linear materials for bucket as Aluminum Alloy NL, Copper Alloy NL, Stainlessteel NL

2) Inport the model into geometry and open spaceclaim to look for any abnoramlity in the model, if everthing is correct close spaceclaim

3) Open model for setup

rename the parts as below

here make bullet as rigid body as we are not intrested in getting results for bullet

assign matrial to bucket

delete any existing connection between bullet and bucket

let defualt body interaction of frictionless be their

in mesh give edges of bucket a edge sizing of 6mm

in analysis settings give

setp end time 0.01

maximum energy error- 5

now give fixed support to bucket and a velocity of 139000 mm/s to bullet in negative X direction

In solutions add Total Deformation And Equivalent Stress.
