Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge

Objective:- To perform an Explicit Analysis of bullet penetrating a bucket by using 3 different kinds of non-linear materials.

Geometry:

Materials:

Bullet is kept as Rigid with Tantalum as material and the Bucket is assigned with Copper alloy NL, Aluminium Alloy NL and stainless steel NL material, for 3 different kinds as cases.

Connections:

In Explicit analysis, the model mainly depends mainly on Body interactions.

Meshing:

Mesh size of 6mm was used for the bucket.

Analysis settings:

End time= 1e-002 s

Fixed support:

Velocity:

Velocity of 139,000 mm/s was assigned to the bullet in the -ve X-direction.

SOLUTION:

Case 1: magnisium Alloy NL

Total Deformation:

Min. value = 0mm , Max.value =

Equivalent stress:

Min.value = 0MPa , Max.value = MPa

Case 2 : Aluminium Alloy NL

Total Deformation:

Min.value = 0mm , Max.value = 1390 mm

Equivalent stress:

Min.value=0 MPa , Max.value= 808.75 MPa

Conclusion:-

- Total Deformation is same in case of Copper Alloy NL and stainless steel NL.

- We can observe that the deformation in all cases are equal but there is a huge variation in maximum von-mises stress. Maximum stress is experienced by Aluminium alloy NL and minimum stress is experienced by Magnisium Alloy.
