Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge
Objective : To simulate the bullet penetration into the bucket using three different non linerar materials for the bucket and analysing their behaviour for the same velocity of the bullet.
CAD model
The material assigned for the bullet is TANTALUM.
Properties of TANTALUM
Preprocessing setup :
Meshing :
The bucket is meshed with a body sizing of 30 mm and the bullet is meshed with mesh size of 10mm.
Meshed geometry
Boundary conditions :
- The bottom surface of the bucket is fixed.
- The bullet penetrates into the bulle with a velocity of 1.36e+005 mm/s.
Fixed Support
Velocity
Analysis setting :
The end time of the simulation is set to 1.e-002.
Results :
Case-1 : copper alloy NL

Equivalent Von-mises Stress
Equivalent Elastic Strain
Case-2 : Alluminium Alloy NL

Conclusion :
As comapring the results of the three cases the total deformation is same in all the cases i.e 1360mm.stress is more in the stainless steel and less in aluminium alloy i.e 1370 mpa and 496.23 mpa respectively.
