Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge
Aim: To perform a explicit dynamic simulation for a bullet penetrating into bucket model. We perform simulation with three different materials for bucket. Whereas the material for the bullet is constant.
Simulation details:
- Selected material for bullet is Tantalum
- Three non linear material selected are: Titanium alloy NL, Magnesium alloy NL, Copper alloy NL
- Velocity of bullet for all three cases is 139000 mm/s
- Bucket has a fixed boundary condition
Results:
Case 1: (Material used for bucket is Copper alloy NL)
Total deformation

Equivalent stress

Discusiions and conclusions:
Here we can observe in cases 1,2 and 3, it is clear that after bullet touching bucket its not getting penetrated through the bucket. Instead the bullet after touching the bucket it is getting retracted upwards.
Reason might be that material selection of the bucket or the impact velocity of bullet.
