Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge
OBJECTIVES :-
- To simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket using 3 different non linear materials for the bucket and analyse their behaviour for the same velocity of bullet
PROCEDURES:-
- Open ansys workbench R2
- select explicit dynamic anlysis
- rename it if it required
- select engineering data ,select required material like alumium alloy ,stainless alloy ,copper alloy from non linear material list
- select TANTALUM from explicit material list for all cases
- import the geometry
- open the ansys mechanical
- rename part properly
- select TANTALUM for bullet ,type as rigid

- select material for bucket appropriately
-

- in mesh section ,insert sizing ,select two eedge of bucket ,input element size as 6 mm

- in analysis section input end time as 0.01s,maximum energy error as 5

- insert fixed support in explicit dynamic section ,select bottom surface of bucket as its scope

- insert velocity ,select defined by component input zero for y and z axis ,and for x axis input -139000mm/s

- insert total deformation , equivalent stress and equivalent strain in solution section
- run solve
RESULT :-
CASE I:-
ALUMINUM NON LINEAR ALLOY BUCKET:-
TOTAL DEFORMATION :-

EQUIVALENT STRESS:-

TABULATION:-
| CASES | TOTAL DEFORMATION(mm) | EQUIVALENT STRESS(MPa) | EQUIVALENT STRAIN(mm/mm) |
| CASES I | 1390 | 1428.5 | 0.020419 |
| CASES II | 1390 | 2003.2 | 0.02417 |
| CASES III | 1482.3 | 4104.7 | 0.014816 |
CONCLUSION :-
- total defomation is more in third case which included stainless steel non linear bucket
- Equivalent stress is more in stainless steel non linear material
- equivalent strain is more in copper alloy non linear material
- equivalent stress is very low copared to others in aluminium non linear alloy
