CHALLENGE REPORT

Week 10 Assembly workbench

Assembly 1:

Creation of individual parts:

The parts are individually created in the part workbench as per the given drawings. The drawings consisted of 2 dimensional structures and sections of individual parts.

Perform part operations by constructing lines and sketches at appropriate stages. Follow the dimensions given as per the drawings. Assume certain dimensions wherever the dimensions are not given.

Here, use a sketch to draw the outer profile and offset it to the given dimension. Then pad the profile to the given dimension. Do the same with the rear end and pad it to the same length as the outer profile.

Use the Boolean operation to join both of them. Use the union trim option to obtain the desired shape.

This geometry consists of 2 cylinders of different diameter and at different heights. So, draw a circle for the larger cylinder and pad it for the given height. In a new body, create the thinner cylinder.

Now perform the Boolean add operation to join both the bodies.

Note: Always create a point at the origin. It becomes easier to constrain the object in the assembly workbench.

The above part will be used to slide through the first part (the square section). The hammer like part is created using 2 separate bodies.

The first solid is the square cuboid. A simple centred rectangle is created through the reference point and pad till the distance specified.

In the next body, create a cylinder and pad it through the given distance. Give it 2 limits, i.e., a smaller upper limit and a larger lower limit.

Now, use the Boolean add tool to join both the bodies.

The key like object is used to convert reciprocating motion to rotary motion and vice versa. Here we can have 3 bodies or 2 bodies depending on the technique used.

First we will create an outer profile and then pad it to given thickness in a separate body. create 2 cylinders of same specification that of the protrusion in 2 different bodies.

Use Boolean add for the cylinder in the end and Boolean remove for the cylinder in the middle.

It is the simplest part of them all. All we need to create is a cylinder of the given specification. This is a pin which revolves around the central axis of the first part.

Assembly

The final assembly is carried out in the following way:

Import the first component by inserting the existing component. Use the fix command in order to restrict the motion of the component.

Import the second component. Use the offset command to keep the distance between the reference axes. Also coincide the axes of the hole of the first component and the axis of the 2nd component.

Now import the 3rd component and coincide the x-z axis of the 1st component and 3rd component. Offset the x-y axes of the 1st component and the 3rd component to the given distance.

Import the 4th component and coincide the axis of the smaller hole of it and the pin of the 3rd component. Offset the x-y planes of the 3rd and 4th components to the given distance.

Bring in the 5th component. First coincide the axis of the pin with the axis of one of the end of the 1st component as shown in the figure. Then coincide the axis of the 5th component and the axis of the larger hole of the 4th component. Apply offset constraint with respect to the x-y plane of both component at a given distance.

Assembly 2:

Creation of individual parts:

The parts are individually created in the part workbench as per the given drawings. The drawings consisted of 2 dimensional structures and sections of individual parts.

Perform part operations by constructing lines and sketches at appropriate stages. Follow the dimensions given as per the drawings. Assume certain dimensions wherever the dimensions are not given.

This part is created by intersecting 2 cylinders orthogonally. We need 2 different bodies. In 1st body create a cylinder of given diameter and pad it using mirrored extent.

Similarly create another body in a plane perpendicular to the plane. In that plane create cylinder with the same specification normal to the cylinder.

Add the body to the previous body and apply the given fillet of the specified radius.

With the help of the link length connecting the 2 symmetrical elements, create a plane at half its length using projection through point parallel to x-z plane.

Create the outer profile in a sketch and pad it for the given thickness. Create 2 circular pockets at the ends of the feature concentric to the pad and pocket it for the given specifications.

Mirror the feature with respect to absolute x-z plane. In a separate body create the link by drawing a centred rectangle on the reference point and pad it to a length slightly more than the actual link length.

Now Boolean add both the components. Finally apply necessary fillets of the given radii at appropriate places.

To create this component, in x-y plane create an open rectangle with 3 sides and offset it to the thickness given in the drawing. Make sure that the breadth of the rectangle is not more or equal to the diameter of the circular feature.

In a different body pad it with mirrored extent to a given thickness. Now create the circular feature. Create a plane parallel to y-z plane. Create the circle in that plane and pad it to the given thickness.

Similarly create a concentric circle for pocketing the outer circle. Pocket the cylinder to the given depth using the circle we just created.

Create 3 instances of the circular body and apply transformation operations to obtain the desired orientation of the cylindrical instances.

Use Boolean trim to add the necessary faces of the desired instances. Finally apply fillets at necessary edges.

Assembly

The final assembly is carried out in the following way:

First import the 2nd part and rotate with respect to x axis to 90o and fix the component.

Import the 1st component and coincide its one of the axis to the axis of one of the cylindrical cavity of the 2nd component. Coincide x-y axes of all the 3 components. Do the same with the other cavity in the 2nd component.

Now import the 3rd component and coincide their respective axes and x-z axes. Do the same with the other side.

Drafting:

For drafting create a template of sheet size A3. In that template, create a name and title block of the respective model, rest of the spaces will be filled automatically.

Always create the front view first (Refer the given drawings). Accordingly create different views which might help the manufacturer to produce it. Use section views wherever necessary (especially at the holes).

Provide dimensions at necessary places. Do not provide less dimensions which makes it difficult to manufacture. Use different symbols denoting the type of measurement (e.g., diameter). Make sure the dimensions are legible and does not have confusing layout.
