Week 1 Understanding Different Battery Chemistry

Applications

Used in portable devices since they are light wieght.

Used in aerospace apllications.

Lithium ion batteries have higher specific energy than that made of zinc and lead due to relatively lower wieght and lower density of lithium. They are more stable on recharging. They use usually zinc and cobalt oxides as additional electrode materials.

LCO uses cobalt as its active material. It has a cobalt oxide cathode and graphite carbon anode.

LMC contains nickel, manganese, cobalt within a typical blend.

NCA contains composed cations of lithium, nickel, cobalt, alluminium.

LTO replaces graphite as anode

LFP are cobalt free.

LMO uses manganese dioxide as cation material.
