Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
Objective:- Design plate with one hole and two holes along the centre line using the boundary conditions like:
- Plate fix at one end.
- Force apply on opposite side of 500N. Then analyse the strees and deformation in both the conditions.
Case 1: Plate with single hole

Plate dimensions:
Length=300mm
Height=120mm
Thickness=30mm
Circular Hole at the center:
Diameter=60mm.
- This model is created in space claim by uisng different tools like rectangle, circle with centre.
- After creation of basic geometry we will extrude it as per thickness ask for. i.e. t=30mm.
- After creating geometry we will go for model so we can make mesh (0.5mm size) on given model and then insert force, fix support also insert joint load as revolute joint.

- After addding all the conditions we will go for results whichever required in the final solution like stress, deformation.

Case 2: Plate with centre hole along with two holes on centre line.

smaller holes 90mm away from the center:
Diameter=30mm
Boundary Conditions:
Plate fixed at left face.
Load of 500N on the right face.

- Comparision between the results:
| Conditions | plate with a hole | plate with three holes |
| Total deformation (max) | 0.55e-3 | 0.00029 |
| Total deformation (min) | 0.0003 | 0.00013 |
| Total deformation (avg) | 0 | 0 |
| Equivalent stress (max) | 1.21 | 0.58 |
| Equivalent stress (min) | 0.345 | 0.3242 |
| Equivalent stress (avg) | 2.065e-002 | 0.001 |
Conclusion:
- From the table I conclude that total deformation in Plate with three holes has more than Plate with a hole. And maximum stress is higher in plate with a hole than Plate with three holes because of more irregularities.
- But equivalent avg. stress is more in plate with three holes as streess is devloped near holes.
- From analysis point of view, Plate with three holes will preferable as max. and min. stress is less as compared to plate with a hole. Also time taken for both the conditions was approx. remains same.
- From manufacturing point of view I will suggest Plate with single hole because it is easy to manufacture plate with one hole compare to three hole as it takes more time also to manufacture.
