Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
Objective: To compare the deformation and maximum stress developed on a structural steel model for the given two cases, to select valid design as per analysis standpoint.
Software Used: Ansys-19.0-Workbench.
Material: Stainless steel.
Given cases:
Case-1:

Case-2:

Process flow in FEA:

Procedure:
- Open Ansys Workbench.
- Select Static structural.
- Edit the Engineering data to import different Materials as per preference.
- From the Geometry tab, open space claim to design the model.
- From the Project Schematic, update the model.
- Edit the setup to generate mesh, apply loads and solve the problem.
- From the solution, import type of results needed to display and solve all results.
- Export each result to the required format and analyse the results.
Analysis Results:
Case-1: plate_with a hole
Total deformation:

Equivalent Stresses:

Case-2: plate_with_holes
Total Deformaton:

Equivalent Stress:

| Type of Result | Case-1 | Case-2 |
| Total Deformation(Min) | 0 mm | 0 mm |
| Total Deformation(Max) | 2.7492e-004 mm | 2.9733e-004 mm |
| Equivalent Stress(Min) | 6.9752e-003 MPa | 5.3124e-004 MPa |
| Equivalent Stress(Max) | 0.60615 MPa | 0.5806 MPa |
Conclusion:
- As per the results, although there is more max stress in the plate_with_holes in a negligible numbers, plate_with_hole is considered as best design because of less deformation.
- To conclude the best manufacturing design, plate_with_hole is best design due to single hole.
