Week 1:- Introduction to BiW and Fixtures Challenge
1. BIW stands for BODY IN WHITE, referring to the car's sheet metal structure that is assembled but not yet painted or equipped with interior, exterior, or chassis sub-assemblies
BIW Parts Body side panel, Closers (doors, hood, trunk lid) , roof, fender, dashboard, floor panel, etc.,
2. BIW nomenclature provides a clear and consistent language for describing and referencing the various components of a car's frame, which is crucial for effective communication and collaboration throughout the design and manufacturing process.
3. Fixtures is a device which is used to hold the workpiece in a appropriate position
there are many type of fixtures are in this Automation Industry such as,
milling fixtures, boring fixtures, welding fixtures, tapping fixture etc.,
4. Fixture design principles focus on ensuring accurate positioning and secure clamping of workpieces during machining or assembly operations.
some Key principles are Accuracy, Repeatability, durability, safety, cost effectivity and more.
5. Tooling station, gripper, stands, Miscellaneous
Tool Stations: These stations utilize various fixtures to hold and position BIW components during operations like welding, riveting, or inspection.
Geo Station, Re-spot Station, Marriage Station, Framer Station
Gripper Stations: These stations employ specialized grippers to secure and manipulate BIW components, especially during transfer between different stations or for specific welding operations.
Stand Stations: These stations offer basic support and positioning for BIW components during various stages of the assembly process.
Miscellaneous Stations: This category encompasses a variety of stations that perform specific tasks, such as:
Buffer Station, Trolley, conveyors
5. NC / Mylars, pin, riser, l blocks, plates, rough locators, shims, naming plates etc.,
