Week 1:- Introduction to BiW and Fixtures Challenge

question 1. What is BIW & define its parts

Body in white is state in the automobile manufacturing in which a car body component have been joined togather , using one and more techniqes (spot , mig , mag) , riveting clinching.

BIW is normaly categroized as

1. body side

2. under body

3. clouser roofs

4. fender

5. reinforcements

Body side

1.body side outer

2. body side inner

both sides of the . its mount all the pillars a,b,c .

UNDEBODY

1. front end under frame

2. main floor

3. rear end frame

CLOUSER components

1.front door

2. Rear Door

3. trunk lid

Roof consits of

1. Roof inner

2. Roof outer

FENDER

The component seat between side body and front end frame

Question 2 What do you understand by BIW nomenclature

it is basically naming all part of body. these name can be said as subpart of already catorized part above.

They can be differ from one contries to another

Question 3 What is fixture and its type

Fixture is holding device which hold the work pieced to be processed. In general fixture are designed using 3 2 1 principal. Fixture hold the workpiece without causing vibration and distortion.

Types of fixture

1. Production fixture

These fixture are used for mass production. since the fixture for mass production they should be simple , rigid and hard. they should maintained regularly on interval for avoid error.

2. Pre Production operation fixture

These fixture are for used for new devlepment parts and products. These can be refered ad prototype fixture.

3. Checking fixture

These fixture are used for checking and inspection purpose. no processing is done in these fixture.

Question 4 What is the basic principal of fixture design

a) The fixture is designed based on how the workpiece is fixed on fixture

b) The 3 2 1 Principled is used

* Transistional x,-x,y,-y,z,-z

*Rotaional ( clock and anticlock Wise X Y Z)

Question 5. Elaborate types of BIW staion

BIW Station is part of biw assembly line. BIW assembly line divided in zones

The BIW station are divided into following

1. Tool station

2. Gripper station

3. Stand station

4. Miscellaneous station

TOOLS STATION

a) Geo fixture = A GEO tools is a fixture in which geometry of the pannel which are welded togather is defined accurately

b) RE - SPOT FIXTURE

It is a fixture in which the remainig weild spots which are not achieved in geo tools are welded

c) Marriage and hemming fixture

In this fixture inner pannel and outer pannel assembly joined togather

d) checking fixture

In this fixture we check assembly and part tolerance and dimmenssion etc

Gripper station

A gripper is a device that enable the holding of a object to be manipulated . easier way to describe gripper as think of a human hand

a) material handling gripper

material hendling gripper are use to handle car from one station to another station

b) process gripper

these are also use to handle car pannel to one station to another station and these gripper also have gluing reiviting and sealing etc.

c) combo griper

they are multi tasking gripper combination of gripper + weild gun

d) dual gripper

they handle material and they are two sided

Stand station

they are used to hold the part which are going to be mount

Diffrent type of stand used

a) pedestral stand

wield gun is mounted on the fixed stand which are mounted on the floor permanently

b) gluing stand

gluing gun is fixed on stand for glue the parts

c) docking stand

in this stand we put some eqvipment yhat are not use now

d) date stamp

we use it put date on parts

Question 6. What are basic termologies used in BIW fixture

a) nc/myler/fingers

they hold the pannel while these are placed from topside and from bottom side

b) principal locating point

they use to locate the workpiece

c) blade

d)rough locators

this work as guide for part to be put on right orientation

e)hardware

hardware are the bolts ,self locking nuts

f)CMM

cordinate measuring machine use to measure the geometry of the physical objectby sensing the point

g)units

j)number plates

k)co ordinate plates

l) name plate

m) clamp arm

n) pivot

o) class a surface

p) reed switch
