Week - 1 - Consistency of Units

Aim:

To convert the given measurements in the given different system of units and also mention their conversion factors.

Procedure:

The conversion of SI unit to gm/mm/ms system for the given measurement is as follows:

  1. Conversion from SI Unit to gm/mm/ms system
    • Mass = 1 kg = 1000 gm
    • Length = 1 m = 1000 mm
    • Time = 1s = 1000ms
    • Force = 1 N = (1*1000 g)*(1*1000mm)/(1*1000ms)² = 1 (g*mm)/ms²
    • Stress = 1Pa = (1*1000 g)/(1*1000mm)*(1*1000ms)² = 10-6 g/mm-ms²
    • Energy = 1 Nm = (1*1000 g)*(1*1000mm)²/(1*1000ms)² = 10³ gm-mm²/ms²
    • Density = 1 kg/m³ = (1*1000 g)/(1*1000mm)³ = 10-6 g/mm³
    • Youngs modulus = 1 GPa = 109 *10-6 g/mm-ms² = 103 g/mm-ms²
    • Velocity = 1 km/hr = (1*106 mm)/(60*60*1000) = 0.277 mm/ms
    • Gravity = 9.81 m/s² = 9.81*(1*1000mm)/(1*1000ms)² = 9.81*10-3 mm/ms²
  2. Given measurements converted into different units

  3. Conversion factor:

Conclusion:

The given measurements have been converted the given different system of units and also their conversion factors have been mentioned.
